Frequently asked questions

What is the Lakes Route?

The Lakes Route is Switzerland’s national cycle Route 9, signposted in red the whole way. The full route runs more than 500km from Lake Geneva to Lake Constance past ten lakes. This holiday takes the finest section of it, from Vevey to Lucerne.

How hard is the cycling?

The riding is flat along the lakeshores, with climbs between one lake and the next. Daily distances run between roughly 28 and 53km. An e-bike is well worth considering if you would rather enjoy the views than earn them, and stages can be shortened by public transport.

Are meals included?

Breakfast each morning. Unlike most of our Swiss walking holidays this trip is bed and breakfast, so evening meals are not included, which leaves you free to eat where you like in towns such as Gruyères, Spiez and Lucerne.

When can I go?

The season runs from late March to mid October, considerably longer than our Swiss walking holidays. That makes it a good choice for spring and autumn, when the valleys are quieter and the light is at its best.
